Castle and Garden in Caithness

The Castle of Mey is owned by the Royal Family and was purchased and renovated by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother who owned it from 1952 until 1996, when Her Majesty gifted it with an endowment to the Castle of Mey Trust. Prince Charles visits and stays at the castle every year. The castle and garden are open to the public during the main tourism season and a couple of days a week from April. The gardens at the Castle of Mey are a favourite place to visit, especially in the summer months when the rose beds are in full flower and the herbaceous and shrubs are also in flower. You can see views of Orkney from the castle.
